LATINDEX represents a specialized information source regarding academic serials published in Latin America, the Caribbean, Spain and Portugal. Each participating country has the possibility to build its own database according to common specifications and to upload it in the System’s website, be it through information transfers or online access.
In this way, the System offers the publications from affiliated countries a specific visibility in the integrated context of Latin American publications. It also ensures wide access through the use of modern information science and communications tools.
Likewise, the institutions from participating countries may be benefited by the financial support granted to the System as a whole. The institutions are also able to share their experiences with their colleagues from other countries. Thus, for example, there is the possibility of creating domestic databases regarding academic journals in countries that do not already have this service. There is also the possibility of establishing collaboration links with other agencies having similar objectives and to benefit from courses and workshops for journal publishers, etc.
