Background. The central zone of Veracruz state in Mexico, includes areas of cloud forest in which some microbial interactions such as insect-associated fungi can be found, like Isaria, Paraisaria, Ophiocordyceps, Paecilomyces and Cordyceps genera. Objective. To isolate entomopathogenic fungi from the cloud forest of Veracruz and determine their antioxidant and acetylcholinesterase inhibitor potential. Methodology. Mycelium covered pupae and insects and those that present growth of fruiting bodies were collected. From these, six entomopathogenic fungi were purified and identified by morphology and sequencing of the ITS region of rDNA and maximum likelihood analysis and Bayesian inference. These strains were propagated by batch cultures using liquid fermentation. The culture broth and biomass were extracted to evaluate the antioxidant capacity, acetylcholinesterase inhibition and quantify flavonoids and total phenols. Results. A total of six different strains of insect-associated fungi were identified, including the genera Cordyceps, Beauveria and Clonosthachys. The strain CIMA_225, identified as Cordyceps takaomontana, represent the first report of these fungi associated with a Lepidoptera pupa in the ecological reserve La Martinica, Banderilla, Veracruz, Mexico. The C. takaomontana culture broth extract presented higher antioxidant capacity than the control antioxidant Trolox, against ABTS and DPPH radicals, this antioxidant capacity was related to the content of flavonoids and total phenols on the extract. Biomass extracts from samples CIMA_256 to CIMA 258, identified as Beauveria bassiana and culture broth extracts from CIMA_259 (Clonosthachys rosea) and CIMA_260 (C. rogersoniana) presented higher percentages of inhibition of acetylcholinesterase when compared to galantamine as positive control. Implications. These strains can be considered candidates for a deeper chemical-biological study and contribute to the knowledge of novel sources of bioactive fungal metabolites. Conclusion. The insect-associated fungi extracts reported in this work showed antioxidant and acetylcholinesterase inhibitory potential, therefore their metabolites can be used in biomedical and insecticidal applications.

Background: Currently, agroecosystems (AES) face problems related to climate change, soil erosion, environmental pollution, and resource degradation that directly impact sustainability. Objective: To understand the degree of sustainability of the sugarcane agroecosystem of the community of Sihochac, Champotón, Campeche, Mexico, through the analysis and evaluation of economic, environmental and sociocultural indicators. Methodology: The MESMIS method was used to define the indicators corresponding to each dimension. The information from each was gathered based on a sample of 70 farmers, calculated through the finite population formula; a questionnaire with closed questions was applied and answers with a scale of 0 to 4. Results: The sociocultural indicators obtained the highest value with 2.32, followed by the economic with 2.14, and lastly, the environmental with 0.57. The General Sustainability Index (GSI) obtained was 1.68, which indicates that the sugarcane agroecosystem is not sustainable. Implications: The sugarcane farmers manage their agroecosystems with various conventional methods, so they require using more sustainable practices to reduce the environmental impact on this crop. Conclusions: Because the sugarcane AES is not sustainable, it is necessary to implement conservation measures, for example, using varieties that are more resistant to pests and diseases which require less synthetic chemical products and promoting the use of organic fertilizers, as well as fostering social relationships and fairer and more solidary support both for farmers and for representatives of sugarcane-growing groups.

Introduction: According to the World Health Organization (WHO), three quarters of deaths caused by prematurity could be prevented with available, cost-effective interventions. In Mexico, in-hospital care aimed at neonates is considered heterogeneous and deficient, while early stimulation programs for infants traditionally include parent education aimed at achieving developmental milestones through ambiguous techniques, excluding psychosocial factors within therapeutic interventions. Objective: Identify the sensorimotor alterations presented in infants between 2 and 15 months of age with a history of prematurity, promoting therapeutic interventions related to their needs. Methodology: A descriptive, analytical and cross-sectional observational study was carried out where the clinical record of each infant was reviewed. After applying the Hammersmith Infant Neurological Examination (HINE) scale, the results were taken. 54 infants with a history of prematurity, for correct interpretation the Gross Motor Scale (GMFCS) was used, obtaining a predictive functional diagnosis of each one to subsequently design intervention recommendations based on the identified needs. Results: Of 54 infants included in the study, 35 were male and 19 were female. Of 40 infants evaluated between 3 - 6 months, 4 (7,4%) had scores less than 35 points, 22 (40,74%) had scores between 40 - 59 points and 14 (25,92%) had scores between 60 - 70. Of 10 infants evaluated at 6 - 9 months 1 (1,8%) presented scores less than 35 points, which represents a high risk of not only achieving independent mobility, but also of suffering from CP. While 1 (1,8%) scores between 40 – 59 points and 8 (14,81%) score above 70 points. No infants between 9 - 12 months were reported. Finally, 4 infants evaluated at 12 - 15 months, representing 7,4% of the total, reached the maximum score of the instrument applied (78 points). Finally, 49 (90.740%) infants were found with a GMFCS of I - II and a minority of 5 (9.259%) at levels IV - V. Conclusion: Follow-up of infants after discharge is essential for the prevention and detection of disorders in neurodevelopment, in addition to being opportune for adequate adherence to the treatment of these, complemented by the offering of sensory-motor experiences, it is possible to promote and adapt cutting-edge therapeutic interventions to the economic, social and cultural conditions of the Mexican population.

Introduction: Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death worldwide and nationally. Cardiovascular rehabilitation is a therapeutic process that reduces symptoms, number of hospitalizations, morbidity and mortality, improves exercise capacity and tolerance, improves blood lipid levels, improves functional capacity, quality of life and psychological well-being of people. with cardiovascular disease. At the national level, cardiovascular rehabilitation programs traditionally include health education focused on the control of cardiovascular risk factors, physical training, with aerobic work plus psychosocial intervention, without including the strength component. This study attempts to identify the Effect of an aerobic plus strength exercise program with two Phase II Cardiovascular Rehabilitation training modalities on the body composition of older adults with cardiovascular disease. Methods: This work corresponds to a descriptive, retrospective observational study. The pre and post results were taken from 199 records of older adults who participated in the Phase II Cardiovascular Rehabilitation Program of the National Hospital of Geriatrics and Gerontology, between 2014 and 2019. The program consisted of two groups that carried out 24 and 32 work sessions that included aerobic work and muscle strength. A mixed ANOVA is performed for each variable. A statistical significance of p≤0.05 was established. Results: Body composition (body mass index improved by -0.28% with magnitude of change of -0.08 kg/m2, p=0.002; overall fat percentage improved by -1.54% with magnitude of change of -0.48%, p<0.001; muscle percentage improved 1.16% with magnitude of change of 0.34%, p<0.001). Conclusion: It is concluded that an aerobic plus strength exercise program of 32 phase II cardiovascular rehabilitation sessions could improve the body composition of older adults with cardiovascular disease.

Introduction:  Temporomandibular disorders affect the temporomandibular joint, masticatory muscles, and associated structures, causing pain and dysfunction, impacting patients' quality of life. Physiotherapy has emerged as an effective approach to treat these disorders, integrating various evidence-based therapeutic modalities. Objective: To determine the evidence-based physiotherapeutic approach for the treatment of adults with temporomandibular disorders. Methodology: A descriptive study involving a comprehensive bibliographic review of existing evidence on physiotherapeutic practices for treating temporomandibular disorders in adults was conducted. Peer-reviewed journal articles, meta-analyses, and systematic reviews published between 2019 and 2024 were consulted from databases including PubMed, Medline, EbscoHost, Google Scholar, Elsevier, and ScienceDirect. Specific descriptors and keywords were used to cover the full spectrum of related conditions. Twenty-seven relevant articles were selected. Evidence levels were classified following Sackett's framework. This approach enabled a critical and systematic assessment, ensuring recommendations are based on the best available evidence.  Results: Key findings indicate that manual therapy effectively reduces pain and improves mandibular function; stretching and strengthening exercises improve function and reduce pain; low-intensity laser has anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects; dry needling trigger points in muscles; and combining multiple therapeutic modalities offers the best results. Collaboration between physiotherapists and dentists is crucial for comprehensive evaluation and treatment.  Conclusions : Research shows that evidence-based therapeutic approaches are effective for treating temporomandibular disorders in adults. Physiotherapy, through techniques such as manual therapy, specific exercises, low-intensity laser, and dry needling, is a valuable tool for managing these disorders.

Introduction: People with auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder have problems processing sound and understanding language; by having one or more structures of the auditory pathway auditory pathway affected. The cochlear implant has been proposed as a rehabilitation option. Electrocochleography applied in patients with auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder, allows for a topo-diagnosis of the lesion, to obtain more reliable expectations of the auditory performance of a patient with this pathology who is a candidate for cochlear implant. Objective: To demonstrate the usefulness of electrocochleography in the evaluation protocol of patients with auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder for cochlear implantation. Methods: Qualitative literature review study based on a literature search between 2020 and 2023 in the EBSCO, Scielo, PubMed and Medline databases, using as descriptors the words electrocochleography AND auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder OR auditory neuropathy, electrocochleography AND auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder OR auditory neurpathy, electrocochleography AND cochlear implant, electrocochleography AND cochlear implant, cochlear implant AND auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder OR auditory neuropathy, cochlear implant AND auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder OR auditory neuropathy, articles published from 2012 to 2024 were selected, in Spanish, English and Portuguese languages, for a total of 21 bibliographical references. Results: Auditory rehabilitation in people with auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder has been a topic under discussion, while some support the idea of cochlear implant, others do not. Electrocochleography gives us the opportunity to study the site of the lesion and provides us with a more realistic prognosis in terms of approach, performance, and expectations of cochlear implant treatment. Conclusions: The application of electrocochleography in cochlear implant candidate patients diagnosed with auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder has a great contribution in terms of topo-diagnosis, for the proper management of expectations, regarding the results of the implant.

Introduction: Therapeutic horticulture (TH) is a nature-based practice, which is used as an interventional tool in Occupational Therapy (TO), characterized by facilitating the development of skills in different areas of occupational performance. Although there is evidence in different contexts and populations, in people with disabilities (PsD) it is minimal. Therefore. The objective of this study was to analyze the interventional practices of H.T. with PsD in the Hortiterapeutic Occupational Center (COH) of the commune of Huechuraba, considering its long history in rehabilitation and support the process of socio-labor inclusion. In addition to highlighting the socio-ecological role of TO in the promotion of sustainable practices to address the climate crisis.   Methods: A qualitative approach was used, through a case study with aspects of narrative design, from a constructivist paradigm and the epistemology of OT Social Echo. Data collection was through in-depth interviews and participant observations.  Results: The main findings refer to the effectiveness of HT in the development of social, motor, and cognitive skills, the increase of socio-labor participation and sense of belonging. Highlighting the historicity and innovation of the COH, by implementing TH from community, ecological and occupational foundations. Conclusion: we emphasize the importance of continuing to deepen the use of HT in PsD, to increase the research line, thus promoting the construction of ecological and inclusive communities.

Lateral epicondylalgia or tennis elbow is one of the most common injuries of the elbow joint complex, with repetitive microtrauma being the main cause of injury. The non-operative approach by extracorporeal shock waves (ESWT) is the ideal physiotherapeutic treatment for chronic tendinopathies. The present case report aims to justify a physiotherapeutic proposal made in two physically active patients of 62 and 57 years, known as healthy, with symptomatology of pain, functional reduction and decrease of the force of the grip. Both patients present lateral epicondylalgia due to the overload of the carpal extensor musculature secondary to physical activity. After the physiotherapeutic evaluation that included special tests, functional assessment and grip force was applied a ESWT protocol once a week, with an initial dose of 2.5 bar and final 4.7 bar, with 2000 shots in each session, patients had between 3 and 6 sessions in total. Both patients had a total recovery from pain, negative special final tests, overall improvement in grip strength and functional capacity. It is concluded that physiotherapeutic treatment with ESWT in lateral epicondylalgia is an effective first-line alternative for the reduction of signs and complete functional recovery of patients with this condition.

The field of physiotherapy encompasses the treatment of a diverse range of conditions, including the restoration of skin integrity when it has been compromised by external agents that cause disruption in the layers that comprise the skin. This case demonstrates that energetic modalities are an effective treatment option for closing a skin wound resulting from contusion or trauma. The patient is a 58-year-old male with a familial and occupational history. He sustained direct trauma to the right lower extremity due to a motor vehicle collision with a motorcycle, leading to an open fracture of the cuboid bone and a transsyndesmotic fracture of the fibula. The fibula fracture caused functional disability and an open wound on the right foot. The approach employed consisted of manual techniques and therapeutic exercise. However, for the remodeling of the scar, energetic modalities such as deep oscillation and magnetotherapy were utilized, achieving the closure and natural appearance of the scar and thus completing the treatment objectives.
